During the past 27 months, Fargo Moorhead has generally been in a colder than average temperature regime. This past February became the 20th such month during that time period to finish with a below average monthly temperature. Last month’s average was 10.1 degrees, which was 4.0 degrees below normal.

Last month lacked neither extremely cold nor warm temperatures as the coldest reading was -19 degrees (average being -23 degrees) and the warmest was just 33 degrees (average being 42 degrees). That 33 degree reading kept February 2010 from being the fifth February since 1881 without a day at or above freezing. The four Februarys without a day at or above 32 degrees were 1922, 1936, 1979 and 1980.

Precipitation-wise, February ended up slightly above average for snowfall with 10.3 inches measured in comparison to the average of 6.0 inches. The liquid precipitation last month was 0.86 inches with the average being 0.59 inches.
