Solar Energy

If you happen to park your car in the sun, you have likely noticed that the interior of your car is noticeably warmer as you head out for lunch, or head home for the day than it was in January.  Granted, the recently mild weather has certainly helped in this regard, but even last week when temperatures struggled to get above zero, there was a noticeable difference in my vehicle as I left work each day.

The Sun is roughly as high in the sky now as it was around Halloween last October.  This stronger sun angle will be very noticeable in not only keeping our vehicles warmer, but also your house on sunny days the rest of the winter.  On a negative note, this increased sun power will heat up the pavement on area roads each day causing melting and refreezing on a daily basis.

Not only can this make for slippery roads at night, but it is also the principle cause of pot holes each spring.

  1. Florida sun has felt good the past couple days, but wow, without a hat it’s really bearing down all of a sudden.

  2. In Fargo, the sun is finally high enough in the sky to melt the snow and ice off the roads, even when it is well below freezing, but, we’re still a few months away from “hat season”.
