Overland Flooding from Space

Although the overland flooding this spring has not been as widespread as other springs, especially 2009, it is still devastating to all those impacted.  In previous springs, the overland flooding was easy to spot on satellite imagery.  This year it is a bit more subtle, but if you look carefully at this image below, you can find Fargo Moorhead as a “bright spot” in the image.

All our concrete and building structures reflect differently than the surrounding countryside, plus the surrounding area is “darker” than usual as the highly saturated soils absorb more sunshine than a drier soil.  See if you can find Fargo in this image.  I will try to post an even higher resolution image this afternoon once the polar orbiting satellite makes pass over the area.
