June 2012 Climate

The National Climatic Data Center released their statistics for the month of June recently and as a whole the lower 48 states recorded the 14th warmest June since 1895.  Only one state, Colorado recorded the warmest June on record.

Although, Fargo Moorhead recorded the 7th warmest June on record, much of the rest of North Dakota was not quite as warm. As a whole, the state of North Dakota recorded the 26th warmest June on record and Minnesota recorded the 22nd warmest.

The precipitation in June was below average, but not remarkably so in Fargo Moorhead.  Last month ranked as tied for the 45th driest June on record, but as a whole, the state of North Dakota recorded the 19th driest on record.  Minnesota on the other hand, principally because of the heavy rain event that impacted northern Minnesota with the severe flooding in Duluth, recorded the 42nd wettest June.  It was one of only a very few states in the center of the country to have above average rainfall last month.
