43 and Counting

As you wake up on this Friday morning, the temperature outside is once again below zero.  Today is the 43rd day with a negative low temperature this season.  All of those days have been recorded since the beginning of climatological winter on December 1.

That means the low temperature has been below zero 7 out of 10 days in the past two months.  Although this month will finish near the middle for temperature ranking, the temperature did drop below zero on 22 of the 31 days.  That is one more then was recorded in our cold December.  Combined, during the past two months, the temperature has been below zero 43 times.  That ranks as tied for the 8th highest such total for the first two months of climatological winter since records started in 1881.

There have been numerous other colder winters, but not too many with so many negative days.
