The meteorological summer (the months of June, July, and August) are down in the record books as being slightly warmer than average and drier than average.  The mean temperature from June 1 through August 31 was 69.7 degrees, which is only marginally above average (0.8 degrees).  There were only eight days with temperatures of 90 degrees or higher, which is below the average of 12.

Summer rainfall was 6.82 inches, which is 2.43 inches below average.  Rainfall for most of the summer was just timely enough in the Fargo Moorhead area that most lawns and local crops were able to do well despite the lack of summer moisture.  The exceedingly wet month of May also helped.  More rain fell into the gauge at Hector Airport in May (7.85 inches) than during all three summer months.
